Sizing

I often see questions around sizing that sound like this…..” Is it true to size? ” or ” Does it fit big or small? “. I struggle with how to answer these questions because, technically, there is no way to answer them. There is no real ” standard ” size template that everyone must follow. This is totally up to each manufacturer, and the range is a quite varied. So when there is no defined, true standard, how can you answer whether it’s true to size or not. How can you say if it runs big or small if there is no baseline reference? The fit ending up big or small completely depends on the body it is being put on, and bodies do not come in standard sizes. The whole system of small / medium / large sizing is something that doesn’t even apply to bespoke garments, really. That is based on mass producing a bunch of sizes and rounding everyone up or down into those preset dimensions. Of course, many folks end up in between, or split between, with some dimensions fitting into one size and other dimensions fitting into another size. When you’re ordering a bespoke garment, where someone is going to build it specifically for you, there is little sense in even considering mass market sizing. Just measure the body, add the room needed for the activity, and get a garment in those dimensions.
