1.8 ounces! (medium basic pullover). This jacket is available as a super simple and super ultralight pullover or with some added adjustment. It’s constructed from Argon 90, which is a 15d fabric that has a little more durability than lower denier shell fabrics and has been tested to have 40 CFM breathability. A medium jacket with all the features is approzimately 3.5oz. The hood on zippered jackets has a face shock cord and a rear cinch so the hood can be loose fitting or snug. The cuffs have elastic openings. The pullover version gets an ultralight crossover hood and elastic cuffs.
The functionality of an ultra light wind shell should not be understated. I have replaced many of my light/mid weight insulation layers with wind shell layers due to the shocking amount of warmth provided at such a low weight. Not only does it block wind and prevent evaporative and convective cooling, but it holds a pocket of warm air around your body that provides decent insulation. At the same time, Argon 90 is one of the more breathable shell materials, allowing you to be active in it. At high intensity activity a more breathable layer is desirable, but at moderate activity in cooler weather, a layer like this can provide great warmth with good breathability at a “basically nothing” weight and “almost nothing” size. It also has a DWR coating that will shed light rain.

I bought this jacket early 2021 and used it all season. My green Argon 90 version in size M/L weighs 75g with a full zipper. It has been my most used piece of clothing this season. It breathes wonderfully but retains a good amount of heat. When I’m backpacking and feel cold it’s the first thing I put on. With a 180g wool baselayer and this wind jacket I’m good to freezing while moving. I highly recommend the full zipper, it makes it way easier to regulate temperature while carrying a pack. I start out fully zipped with the hood up and gradually take the hood off, and unzip it progressively as I get warmer. I’ve paired it with an alpha fleece as well and the combo works great for colder temperatures while active. If I had one thing I’d change I’d make the wrist’s without elastic and put on my own kamsnaps. The elastic makes it hard to look at my watch. But it’s a minor quibble.

I ordered an Argon custom windshell Nov 2021. I ordered it without a hood but with a nice tall collar and custom measurements. It fits beautifully and the collar is the best I have ever used. I highly recommend Timmermade!
