The Battle Shield is back! It went away for a long time. It was a surprisingly polarizing product, but the negative perspectives were all theoretical. As time went on, it seems like everyone that actually used it liked it. Some folks heard about it and wanted it back. Personally, it’s been such a great item to use. Not only is it light, but I actually think it’s a superior umbrella for my uses. There are some cases where it’s a conflict for use of your poles and it doesn’t deploy super fast. That said, it isn’t difficult to deploy by any means, and most of the time when I want an umbrella, I don’t want poles. For the times where I would use poles, but they’re being used by Battle Shield, I’m fine with sacrificing for that benefit.

Currently set up for adjustable poles. If you carry them anyway, for only 1.6oz added to your kit, you get an waterproof umbrella for rain protection and a reflective umbrella for sun protection that can be held in hand like a normal umbrella or secured on your head for hands free use.

It makes a fantastic umbrella for tight forest. Since it is flat you can quickly swing it vertical and scoot through tight trees while blocking wet branches that might soak you.

As sun protection it’s amazing. During long, exposed road walks, you tend to stow your poles anyway. This give them some use to keep you cool.

It comes with corner tie outs for use as a mini tarp with many uses. It is set up with two corner pockets that accept most pole handles and two corner pockets that accept pole tips. The fabric is a 210d polyester with reflective coating facing out. It’s waterproof, blocks sun from coming through, and reflects it away.

It helps to paint some silicone on the middle part of the inside. This provides traction on your head for hands-free wearing. With silicone, it stays put really well if there is no wind or light wind.
