This is an add-on to turn a jacket or vest into an overquilt. It needs to be purchased with said garment so that we can install the appropriate snaps to connect them. Going this route will reduce the weight and bulk added for an oversystem to marginal amounts. This overquilt panel will snap to the hip of a jacket and turn into an overquilt with the jacket as the footbox, and this panel as the top 2/3rds. When purchasing the jacket, use the notes box to request snap installation.
It has a drawcord at the top and snaps along the bottom that attach to the jacket. When not in use as an overquilt, the drawcord can be cinched around your waist with the bottom edge tucked in, to becomes a very warm, double layer insulated skirt.
When being used as an overquilt, like the other models, it comes with a mitten hook to attach to the center drawcord of Timmermade sleep systems (potentially other center drawcord systems too). You snap this onto the jacket, zip jacket up, pull sleeves through head hole to seal it up, and then install over your down system by clipping the mitten hook to the drawcord and snapping the top together. This has a snap in spanner here so that the top circumference when snapped is about 60″.
This is best paired with one of our synthetic jackets, like the Alpha Shell or one of the synthetic batting jackets like apex or Octair. That said, it is possible to explore other options. The one critical caveat is that the body of the garment needs to be large enough to go over the footbox of your sleep system without compression. In many cases this happens to line up well, but there might be cases where you’ll want to oversize the garment in order to make it work. The hip is typically the narrowest part of a jacket that could be problematic. If the garment is small on the down system and it compresses loft, you’ll lose some insulation.
This is built from one layer of Alpha Direct 4004 facing inward and one layer breathable, yet windproof Argon 67 to the outside. The Alpha 4004 layer provides warmth while the Argon layer blocks wind and light moisture from the outside. Temperature rating is variable, but this overquilt will typically add around 10f degrees of insulation to a system. That amount of added insulation has proven highly successful at preventing internal condensation well into negative temperatures.
Comes in 50 top/45 bottom wide x 50 long (unless custom is selected)
It weighs approximately 6oz
If custom dimensions are used to follow the contours of the down system it’s meant to go over, a lighter weight can be achieved. However, if going this route, one should be very careful to not end up compressing the inner down system. There is a top shockcord with a mitten hook at the shock cord exit that can be used to connect to the shock cord exit of another Timmermade system so the two systems stay together. It is possible that it could be used to connect to other systems with a center draw cord or similar attachment point in the center.
Alpha Direct colors are subject to change as rolls run out and are re-stocked. If a roll runs out of a color you ordered, you will be contacted and given a new option.
Measure the outer dimensions of the system the overquilt will go over with a soft tape measure. Stuff pillows or similar inside to mimic your body. Do not compress any loft when measuring. Hold tape loosely. Keep in mind the overquilt has a drawcord footbox and the total length includes the part that will be cinched up. Unlike the drawcord footbox overquilts, where you’d measure the length from the center of the round foot end, with these you would simply measure length from end to end. Since there is a round sewn end, you don’t need to factor in length to cinch over.
