This is the Fetal Position version of the Wren False Bottom Sleeping Bag. It has a huge differential cut to prevent the down from being compressed when the sleeper is curled up inside.
The Wren Sleeping Bag is a full sleeping bag with a false bottom. This is a full sleeping bag that wraps all the way around the sleeper, just without the insulation in the bottom where it is compressed and has limited effectiveness in a traditional bag. 12″ of the total torso circumference is the false bottom. This design pushes weight savings well below traditional bags and even below quilts, but performs totally draft free like a full sleeping bag. Venting is accomplished with the top drawcord. It has horizontal baffles, a very large differential cut so you can’t compress the down fill in fetal position, a puffy draft collar, and super dense chambers 160% overstuffed with Hyperdry 900 fill power down. It is important with any sleep system that it is paired with a sleeping pad rated to similar temperatures. It is especially important with quilts and false bottom bags and it should be noted that pads that utilize empty spaces are generally not suitable for these types of sleep systems.

This should be used with a Waterbear Balaclava or it can be used with other types of head insulation. https://timmermade.com/product-category/sleep-systems/balaclavas/
This can be paired with an overbag to manage moisture and boost it’s temperature rating. https://timmermade.com/product-category/sleep-systems/overbags/

Great bag! After about 50 nights and 500 miles with it I feel comfortable leaving an early impressions review. This is a quality product, and Dan was extremely helpful helping me choose the right product, measurements, and features for my use on the JMT last summer. I had no idea getting a quality piece of custom-made gear was actually so affordable and accessible. I am forever grateful for my purchase. I LOVE the Forest Green fabric that it uses. Was the color one of the main reasons for me choosing this bag? Maybe. Am I happy to crawl into it every evening? Absolutely. Having the ability to bend my knees and curl into the fetal position is a game changer. It keeps me extra warm. It’s my preferred sleeping position. Others I camp with comment on how quickly I start snoring after going to bed. Quite useful. I got a Waterbear hood in matching fabric. It’s so warm that I’ve barely ever had to use it. The little pad attachment straps are insanely useful and lightweight. Can’t say enough good things about it.
It’s stupid lofty, I’ve measured around 7-8″ at the footbox. Pretty crazy warm. I have never, ever EVER slept cold in this thing even cowboy camping above 10,000 feet. I have managed to cram this bag, and the hood into a 3 liter stuff sack. Normally I keep it at the bottom of my pack and floof it up before bed.
If anything it’s often too warm. The only thing I’d change would be to include a zipper, or go with a quilt for my next purchase so that I can more comfortably use it in the warmer months of the Desert Southwest where I live. Since I can always use a different bag, or even have a zipper added I have no complaints. Quality craftsmanship.
