False Bottom Sleeping Bags can be built with a 3/4 length zipper along the left edge of the false bottom. The pad strap can remain attached around the pad keeping the false bottom in place, but the edge of the bag can be unzipped. The zipper is a durable #3 molded tooth zipper with a single slider tab to the inside. None to the outside. This option adds approximately .75oz top the finish weight.

This is the Mummy Shape version of the Wren False Bottom Sleeping Bag. It’s narrower in the torso than the fetal position systems with a smaller differential cut. It’s meant to bend with your legs rather than allow room to curl up inside.

The Wren Sleeping Bag is a full sleeping bag with a false bottom. This is a full sleeping bag that wraps all the way around the sleeper, just without the insulation in the bottom where it is compressed and has limited effectiveness in a traditional bag. 12″ of the total torso circumference is the false bottom. This design pushes weight savings well below traditional bags and even below quilts, but performs totally draft free like a full sleeping bag. Venting is accomplished with the top drawcord. It has horizontal baffles, a differential cut, a puffy draft collar, and super dense 160% overstuffed chambers. It is important with any sleep system that it is paired with a sleeping pad rated to similar temperatures. It is especially important with quilts and false bottom bags and it should be noted that pads that utilize empty spaces are generally not suitable for these types of sleep systems.

This is the fetal position version of the Wren False Bottom Sleeping Bag. See https://timmermade.com/sizing/sizing-sleep-systems/ for information on sizing.

This should be used with a Waterbear Balaclava or it can be used with other types of head insulation. https://timmermade.com/product-category/sleep-systems/balaclavas/

This can be paired with an overbag to manage moisture and boost it’s temperature rating. https://timmermade.com/product-category/sleep-systems/overbags/

See the “Technology” section on this site for information about this system’s features.

The Wren false bottom design is absolutely brilliant. It solves the main problem with traditional mummy sleeping bags wherein the insulation under your torso is compressed and useless, but still adds weight; and, it solves the main problem with traditional quilts of drafts and needing to be a bit oversized. The Wren delivers the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any design I’ve ever seen. Every detail of the Wren is well thought out from the false bottom shape, to the baffle design, to the bias offset, to the pad attachment strap, to the collar cinch, to the WaterBear down hood. And the craftsmanship is superb.

I am a cold sleeper so I ordered a 10* bag hoping it would get me into the high 20’s maybe. It absolutely does and more. I’ve not had it into the teens yet but I’m very toasty in the 20’s, so I’m confident that I’d be comfy in the teens as well. I can tell you for sure that my Timmermade 10* bag is 10-20* warmer than my 10* Zpacks Classic Sleeping Bag, and it is 2oz lighter.

I own a lot of gear and this is honestly one of my favorite pieces.
